Pyewackett

Pyewackett, my 17 year old domestic short hair cat, had not been eating with his usual gusto for a few days. I was concerned but not to alarmed, since it is common for cats to go off their food occasionally. He always had bad teeth so I just figured that they might be bothering him. That was my first visit to Furballs & Fleabags, Inc., a holistic pet shop near me, hoping that the would have something to help his teeth. They did. Then I heard about the food recall. We had moved from New York, where he was eating a food that I couldn’t in South Florida, so I switched him to another brand that was suppose to be a high quality food. Well, guess what was one of the first foods to be on the recall list? Now I knew why he hadn’t been eating for the last 10 days. I brought him the emergency pet hospital, where he was treated, weighing just under 4 lbs., his normal weight was between 10 and 12 lbs. After having fluids, he was released within 24 hours, but now what do I feed him? I wasn’t going back to the food that poisoned him and with pet food being added daily, the only thing that I thought of was baby food which isn’t nutritionally correct for felines. So, I went back Furballs & Fleabags, Inc., where I was introduces to Aunt Jeni’s Raw Diet. I had email Aunt Jeni about the high levels of protein in the food. One of the vets had said to look for low protein, low phosphoreus food. I was told that other pets with similar kidney problems had done well on Aunt Jeni’s since the protein was natural and it should be ok. Slowly Pyewackett started to eat. I also have him on the Go Healthy! supplements to help with his recuperation. It took several weeks but Pye is now eating several times a day, walking around, jumping on the couch and wants to be held, petted and cries for food!
When I took back to the vet a month later, in May, the vet was very surprised as to how well Pye was doing. The vet’s instructions where to just keep doing what I’m doing.
At his next check up, 4 ½ months after he was first brought in, he now weighs over 7 pounds! We still have a way to go, but I am seeing a big difference in him. He is more alert than he was before and is slowly eating the way he did before this happened to him. His blood has improved greatly and his kidney's were the right size, and I know that it has to be because of all things that he is eating now. He has come back from this horror 110% since his gums which were always inflamed and red, are normal! They called Pyewackett a miracle and said that is very rare that cats come back from something like this. Thanks to Aunt Jeni and Fur Balls & Fleabags, he is a miracle cat!
